Yasmeen* did not have an appropriate person other than her paid carers to support her through a household review, and so a referral was made to Advocacy Focus for an Independent Care Act Advocate (ICAA).
Yasmeen was living in supported living accommodation and expressed that she was unhappy with this and instead wished to move in with her partner of six years. She felt she was not being listened to.
How we helped
Our ICAA met with Yasmeen to find out her views and wishes, even though Yasmeen had care needs she said she expressed unhappiness with her living arrangements. With her consent, the ICAA contacted her social worker who agreed that Yasmeen and her partner should be given the chance to live together more independently.
What was the outcome?
Plans were put into place for a trial overnight stay once per week and for this to gradually be increased until they eventually moved in together. Throughout this period our Independent Advocate went out to see them regularly to ensure that they were happy and to give them the opportunity to raise any concerns they had.
The individuals continue to live together, are planning their wedding and hope to start a family of their own in the future.
